Outside the Arlene Schnitzer Theatre, I met the man with the perfect answer to my question.
What is the perfect answer to the question “What is the Change you Want to See in the World?”
Well Rodrigo summed it up nicely with his statement “I Need to Be the Change in the World.”
Each of us has the ability to effect change. We should all strive to be the change we want to see in the world. Each step forward towards our goal is a step towards change. Each action creates a reaction. Each ripple can create a wave.
When Rodrigo states that he needs to be the change, he is taking ownership of his own responsibility to make things happen.
Think about the change you would like to see in the world, or even in your own backyard. What can you do NOW to start making it happen? What small, imperfect step will lead towards your goal?
Now apply this to every aspect of life. If you want to end hunger globally, perhaps your first step would be to donate food to or volunteer at a local food bank. Or maybe you start a garden to learn how to grow food. Or perhaps you make adjustments in your own household to reduce food waste. Maybe you simply read a book or articles to educate yourself on food issues. None of these actions will immediately solve the hunger issue but they are a step in the right direction. You are moving forward.
You can be the change you want to be in the world. Go Rodrigo and be the change!
